A delightful mix of crunchy and comforting, this Authentic Chicken Parmesan features crispy chicken topped with marinara and gooey cheese, making it an ideal dish for busy weeknights.

  • 2 boneless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for frying
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Season the chicken breasts generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Dip each chicken breast into beaten egg, ensuring it’s well-coated.
  4. Coat the chicken in a mixture of breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese, pressing down lightly to adhere.
  5. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the breaded chicken until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  6. In a baking dish, spread a layer of marinara sauce at the bottom. Place the fried chicken on top and cover with the remaining marinara sauce.
  7. Generously sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the top.
  8. Bake in your preheated oven for about 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Garnish with fresh basil if desired. Serve hot, alongside pasta or a salad.

Notes

For a spicy kick, add red pepper flakes to the breadcrumb mixture. You can also substitute chicken with eggplant or zucchini for a vegetarian option.
