Baked Chicken Parmesan is a comforting dish featuring breaded chicken, rich marinara, and gooey cheese, perfect for family dinners or gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1.5 lbs total)
  • 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (plus more for topping)
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs (beaten)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 (24-ounce) jar marinara sauce
  • 1.5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Combine Panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a shallow dish. Mix well.
  3. Whisk the eggs in another shallow dish.
  4. Place the flour in a third shallow dish.
  5. Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness of about 1/2 inch if they are thick.
  6. Dredge each chicken breast in flour, dip it into the beaten eggs, then press it into the breadcrumb mixture to coat.
  7. Spread half of the marinara sauce evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  8. Arrange the breaded chicken in a single layer over the sauce.
  9. Spoon the remaining marinara sauce over the chicken, then sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
  10. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  11. Allow to rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
  12. Garnish with fresh basil if desired.

Notes

For extra crunch, use a mix of Panko and regular breadcrumbs. Leftover marinara can be added to the baking dish before serving for a saucier dish.
