A delicious and easy-to-make Barbecued Pork Chicken recipe with a flavorful marinade that caramelizes beautifully on chicken thighs.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g chicken thighs (bone-in, skin-on)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp five-spice powder
  • 1 clove garlic, finely minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, and the optional Shaoxing wine.
  2. Add in brown sugar, five-spice powder, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Whisk until the mixture is smooth.
  3. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with foil.
  4. Arrange the chicken thighs on the baking sheet and ensure they are coated evenly with the marinade.
  5. Roast for 10 minutes. Then, baste the chicken with the pan juices.
  6. Repeat the basting every 10 minutes until fully cooked, which should take about 20-25 minutes total.
  7. For a caramelized finish, broil for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  8. Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes, skim off any excess fat, and serve it with rice and leftover sauce.

Notes

For best results, marinate the chicken for at least 30 minutes or overnight. Serve with jasmine rice and steamed broccoli.
