Delightful croissants infused with earthy matcha and rich butter, perfect for brunch or afternoon snacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon matcha green tea powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, matcha powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. Add the cold, cubed butter. Mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. In a separate bowl, warm the milk slightly, then dissolve the yeast in it. Allow it to sit for a few minutes until bubbly.
  4. Pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture. Knead until a smooth dough forms.
  5. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Roll the chilled dough into a rectangle. Fold it several times to create those delightful layers.
  7. Cut the dough into triangles and roll each piece into a croissant shape. Transfer to a baking sheet.
  8. Brush with the beaten egg and let rise for about 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

Notes

Use very cold butter to achieve flaky layers and do not rush the chilling process for the best results.
