A classic comfort dish that combines crispy, breaded chicken with rich marinara sauce and melted mozzarella cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian seasoned)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1.5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil (for garnish, optional)
  • Olive oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Pound each chicken breast to an even thickness of about 1 inch and season them generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Set up your breading station: one bowl for the beaten eggs and another for the mixture of breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese.
  4. Dip each chicken breast into the egg, allowing the excess to drip off, then dredge it in the breadcrumb mixture, coating it evenly.
  5. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat, adding olive oil to cover the pan. Fry the breaded chicken breasts until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  6. Spread a layer of marinara sauce in a baking dish. Place the fried chicken on top and spoon more marinara sauce over them. Finish with a generous sprinkle of mozzarella cheese.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
  8. Garnish with fresh basil before serving.

Notes

Feel free to swap out marinara for homemade or different sauces to diversify the flavor. Gluten-free breadcrumbs work wonderfully for dietary restrictions.
