A comforting and crowd-pleasing Italian classic featuring crispy chicken, rich marinara sauce, and gooey cheese.

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for frying
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Season both sides of the chicken breasts generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Beat the egg in a bowl to create the batter. Dip each chicken breast into the egg, ensuring it’s fully coated, then press into breadcrumbs to coat thoroughly.
  4. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the chicken breasts for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown.
  5. Transfer the browned chicken to a baking dish.
  6. Pour marinara sauce over the chicken breasts. Evenly sprinkle the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
  8. Garnish with fresh basil, if desired, then serve immediately.

Notes

Feel free to swap the cheeses or breadcrumbs to suit your taste, and serve it over spaghetti or with a salad for a complete meal.
