A beloved Italian comfort food dish featuring breaded chicken, marinara sauce, and melted mozzarella cheese.

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for frying
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Generously season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper.
  3. Dip each chicken breast in the beaten egg, coating it fully.
  4. Roll the chicken in a mixture of breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese, ensuring an even coating.
  5. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the breaded chicken for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Place the fried chicken in a baking dish. Pour marinara sauce over each piece and layer with slices of mozzarella cheese.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. If desired, garnish with fresh basil before serving hot.

Notes

For a twist, consider using spicy marinara or different types of cheese. Ensure your oil is hot enough for frying for a perfect golden crust.
