A delicious patty melt featuring savory beef, sweet caramelized onions, and gooey cheese on buttery toasted bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 slices of bread
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 1 pound of ground beef
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 slices of cheese (cheddar or American)
  • Garlic powder
  • Dried herbs (like oregano and thyme)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Begin by melting the butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Once the butter is melted, lay the bread slices in the skillet, toasting one side until golden brown.
  3. In the same skillet, add the sliced onions. Sauté them for about 5-7 minutes until they achieve a lovely golden brown color, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
  4. While the onions cook, shape the ground beef into a patty. Season it generously with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and dried herbs.
  5. Cook the beef patty in the skillet for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until it reaches your preferred doneness.
  6. On the toasted side of one slice of bread, layer the cooked beef patty, the caramelized onions, and the cheese.
  7. Place the second slice of bread on top, toasted side down. Carefully flip the sandwich and toast both sides until they’re golden brown and the cheese has melted (about 3-5 minutes).
  8. Serve your comforting patty melt hot and enjoy every bite!

Notes

Serve with crispy french fries, a fresh green salad, or a dill pickle for a balanced meal. For variations, try using different cheese types or add toppings like jalapeños.
