Indulge in this delicious Crème Brûlée French Toast, a perfect balance of soft brioche soaked in creamy custard, topped with a sweet, brûléed crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of brioche or French bread
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar for topping
  • Optional: Fresh berries or whipped cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. Cut the brioche or French bread into thick slices and arrange them in the greased dish.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
  4. Pour the mixture evenly over the bread slices, ensuring they are well coated.
  5. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  6. Before baking, remove the dish from the refrigerator and sprinkle brown sugar over the top.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden and set in the center.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before serving warm, garnished with fresh berries or whipped cream if desired.

Notes

Using day-old or stale bread helps absorb the custard. Add liqueur for a richer flavor. Experiment with different types of brown sugar for unique textures.
