Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of French bread
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups of heavy cream
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 3/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Powdered sugar for serving
  • Caramelized sugar for topping

Instructions

  1. Slice the French bread into thick slices and arrange in a greased baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  3. Pour the egg mixture over the bread slices, ensuring each slice is coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove dish from refrigerator and bake for 30-35 minutes, until golden and custard is set.
  5. Allow to cool slightly, then sprinkle with granulated sugar and caramelize with a kitchen torch.
  6. Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar.

Notes

For a lighter option, substitute heavy cream with a mix of whole milk and Greek yogurt. Stale bread works best for absorption.
