Delightfully crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, these hash browns are a breakfast staple perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large russet potatoes
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the potatoes: Peel and grate the potatoes. Rinse the grated potatoes under cold water to remove excess starch, then squeeze out as much moisture as possible.
  2. Mix it up: In a large bowl, combine the grated potatoes, finely chopped onion, salt, and pepper.
  3. Heat the oil: In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until it shimmers.
  4. Cook the hash browns: Spread the potato mixture evenly in the skillet. Press down gently with a spatula for even cooking.
  5. First side: Cook until the bottom is golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Flip and finish: Use a large plate to carefully flip the hash browns and cook the other side for another 5-7 minutes until it’s crispy and golden.
  7. Serve and enjoy: Serve hot, topped with your favorite ingredients!

Notes

To achieve perfectly crispy hash browns, squeeze out as much moisture as possible from the potatoes, and avoid overcrowding the skillet.
