A fun and customizable recipe for making homemade pop tarts filled with your choice of jam, perfect for breakfast, snacks, or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package rolled pie crust (2 ct. 7.5 oz pack)
  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons jam or preserves
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk or cream
  • 2 tablespoons jam (for filling)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Lay a sheet of parchment paper on your baking sheet.
  3. Unroll the pie crust onto another sheet of parchment and cut into rectangles about 3 by 5 inches.
  4. Place eight of these rectangles on your prepared baking sheet.
  5. Spoon 1 1/2 tablespoons of your chosen jam onto one rectangle, leaving a small border.
  6. Brush the edges with the egg wash.
  7. Place another rectangle on top and press down to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges and poke holes in the top for steam to escape.
  8. Brush the entire top with the egg wash.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
  10. Allow to cool before whisking together icing ingredients. Spread this sweet mixture over each tart and add sprinkles if desired.

Notes

Feel free to experiment with different types of jam for various flavors! Best served warm.
