A delightful twist on the classic breakfast favorite, French toast waffles combine the best of both worlds for a comforting and versatile brunch option.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf Challah bread
  • 1 cup 2% milk
  • 8 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • Butter (for topping)
  • Maple syrup (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Slice the challah bread into thick pieces, about an inch wide.
  2. In a medium bowl or shallow dish, whisk together the milk, eggs, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and sugar until smooth.
  3. Dunk each slice of bread into the egg mixture, turning to coat well. Let the bread soak slightly for optimal flavor.
  4. Preheat your waffle iron and lightly grease it if necessary. Place the soaked bread slices onto the hot iron.
  5. Cook until the waffles are golden brown and crispy. Carefully remove them and repeat with the remaining slices.
  6. To prevent sogginess, place the cooked waffles on a wire rack.
  7. Serve warm, topped with melted butter and a generous drizzle of maple syrup.

Notes

To prevent sogginess, do not over-soak the bread. For added flavor, consider adding a pinch of nutmeg or flavored extracts like almond.
