Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups fresh green beans, trimmed and blanched
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup French fried onions, divided
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. If using mushrooms, sauté them in butter over medium heat until tender and fragrant.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  4. Add the blanched green beans (and sautéed mushrooms, if used) to the soup mixture and toss until well coated.
  5. Pour the mixture into a casserole dish and spread it evenly.
  6. Bake the casserole for 20-25 minutes, or until hot and bubbly.
  7. Stir in half of the French fried onions and sprinkle the remaining onions on top.
  8. Return the dish to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes until the onions are golden brown and crunchy.

Notes

For a lighter twist, consider using a homemade or plant-based cream of mushroom soup.
