A delightful twist on a classic breakfast favorite, blending the sweetness of Hawaiian rolls with a rich custard base.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 Hawaiian rolls
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Butter, for cooking
  • Optional toppings: maple syrup, fresh fruits, whipped cream, powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Slice the rolls by horizontally slicing each Hawaiian roll in half.
  2. Make the custard mixture by whisking together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  3. Soak each roll half into the custard mixture for about 30 seconds on each side.
  4. Heat a tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  5. Cook the soaked rolls cut-side down in the skillet for 2 to 3 minutes until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes.
  6. Repeat the process until all the rolls are cooked, adding more butter as necessary.
  7. Keep the finished French toast warm in a low oven if cooking in batches.
  8. Serve the finished tostadas on a serving platter with favorite toppings.

Notes
