  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Combine the whole wheat breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  3. Dip each chicken breast into the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring each piece is well-coated.
  4. Place the coated chicken breasts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and golden brown.
  6. Remove the chicken from the oven and spread marinara sauce over each piece.
  7. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  8. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Garnish with fresh basil leaves, if desired, and serve.

Notes

For a gluten-free version, substitute whole wheat breadcrumbs with gluten-free options. You can also use nutritional yeast instead of Parmesan for a dairy-free option.
