Delightful homemade donuts that capture the fluffy texture and sweet flavor of Krispy Kreme donuts.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, granulated sugar, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and ground nutmeg.
  2. In another bowl, whisk the buttermilk, egg, and melted butter until thoroughly combined.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture. Stir gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the batter.
  4. In a deep fryer or large pot, heat vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Carefully drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, frying only a few at a time until both sides turn golden brown.
  6. Use a slotted spoon to lift the donuts from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain any excess oil.
  7. While they’re still warm, dust them generously with powdered sugar.
  8. Serve them immediately and enjoy your homemade donuts!

Notes

For best results, ensure your buttermilk is fresh and your baking powder and soda are active for that fluffy donut texture.
