Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. In another bowl, combine the milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and melted butter, mixing thoroughly.
  3. Gradually add the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring until a cohesive dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Roll the dough out to approximately 1/2 inch thick and cut it into squares or desired shapes.
  6. Heat oil in a deep fryer or a heavy pot to 350°F (175°C) for optimal frying.
  7. Fry the beignets in small batches, cooking until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes.
  8. Remove the beignets and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar immediately before serving. Enjoy your homemade beignets!

Notes

Ensure your oil is at the right temperature when frying; too hot can burn the beignets while too cold can make them greasy.
