A comforting breakfast casserole featuring layers of bread, ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese, soaked in a creamy custard.

  • 6 slices of bread
  • 4 ounces ham, sliced
  • 4 ounces turkey, sliced
  • 4 ounces Swiss cheese, shredded
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar for serving
  • Jam for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. Cut the bread into cubes. Layer half of the bread cubes in the prepared dish.
  3. Add the ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese on top of the bread.
  4. Layer the remaining bread cubes over the meat and cheese.
  5. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, and vanilla extract until combined.
  6. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the layered ingredients.
  7. Allow the casserole to sit for about 20 minutes, so the bread absorbs the custard.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until set and golden brown on top.
  9. Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar, accompanied by your favorite jam.

Notes

Feel free to experiment with different types of bread. For a vegetarian version, consider using spinach and mushrooms as the filling.
