A classic Oven Baked Chicken Parmesan dish that combines tender chicken, savory marinara, and melted mozzarella for a comforting family favorite.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 chicken breasts (About 1 pound of chicken total)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese (fresh grated)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella
  • 2 tablespoons minced parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F and position your oven rack second from the top. Line a baking sheet with foil and brush it with olive oil.
  2. Cut each chicken breast in half and pound them to an even thickness.
  3. Season both sides of the chicken with kosher salt and black pepper.
  4. Combine panko bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, dried oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a shallow dish. In another dish, whisk the egg.
  5. Dip each chicken piece into the egg and coat thoroughly with the bread crumb mixture. Place each piece on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes, then flip each piece over.
  7. Pour 1/4 cup marinara sauce over the top of each chicken piece and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
  8. Broil for an additional 2-4 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Serve with a fresh salad, pasta, or garlic bread for a complete meal.

Notes

For added flavor, experiment with different cheeses or include sautéed spinach or mushrooms under the cheese.
