Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium Russet Potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons Butter or Oil
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Peel the russet potatoes and grate them using a box grater or food processor.
  2. Rinse the grated potatoes under cold water to remove excess starch. Drain them well and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the butter or oil over medium-high heat until hot.
  4. Add the grated potatoes to the skillet, spreading them evenly across the surface.
  5. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Let them cook without stirring for about 5-7 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and crispy.
  6. Carefully flip the hash browns over and cook for another 5-7 minutes until they are fully cooked and crispy.
  7. If using cheddar cheese, sprinkle it over the top just before serving, allowing it to melt slightly.

Notes

For a different flavor, consider using Yukon Gold or sweet potatoes. Serve with eggs, avocado, or a dollop of sour cream.
