Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder in a mixing bowl until well combined.
  2. Blend the milk, eggs, and melted butter in another bowl until smooth and creamy.
  3. Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir gently with a spatula until just combined; be careful not to over-mix.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium heat until it shimmers.
  5. Drop dollops of batter into the hot oil, taking care not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  6. Remove the beignets from the oil and allow to drain on paper towels.
  7. Dust the warm beignets with powdered sugar and serve immediately.

Notes

Serve warm with coffee or hot chocolate. For extra flavor, try adding vanilla extract or citrus zest to the batter.
